Social media specialist

During my time as an Online Communications Officer with the Province of B.C.'s social media headquarters, I created, planned and implemented numerous social media campaigns. I managed the social media content for the ministries of health, social development, children and families, education and advanced education. Our team was responsible for managing the Government of B.C.'s content on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, SoundCloud and the social media content on the BCGovNews website.

I proactively identified opportunities for my ministry to communicate with the public via social media and then developed and posted the content, moderated the public engagement and then evaluated the effectiveness of the communication with analytic software.

Real-time social media monitoring was an important aspect of the job. Breaking news often starts on social media and I acted as the eyes/ears of my ministry - letting them know when I an issue became public.

My writing skills and good judgment were heavily relied on by the team. On numerous occasions, I created detailed question/answer documents to assist the team in moderating a series of paid ads. The ads garnered thousands of comments online and our team was responsible for providing information, answering questions and ensuring the discussion remained civil.

The most senior member of the team, I mentored new staff, participated in hiring interviews, and represented our team at government-wide community of practice meetings.
